This is another one of my meals that would probably leave people guessing if there weren’t a title or inspiration photo to reveal what it’s meant to be. On May 25, I set out on a solo pre-dawn adventure to find a rookery (or heronry) I had seen in a Facebook photo. It was less than a 15-minute drive from my home. It didn’t take long to locate, and seeing it in person was every bit as exciting as I’d hoped. Watching the herons tending their nests high in the trees was an unforgettable experience—and the inspiration for this meal.
