I made this Super Mario Bros sandwich lunch for my 5 year old nephew. I ate lunch with him and was very pleased that he enjoyed it so much. The bag was dropped on it’s side and everything stayed in place except that the apple shifted. I “glued” Mario’s features on with Peanut Butter (you could use Wowbutter or another sticky spread). I thought about using spaghetti to hold the mushroom (apple) together but opted not to do it. I did not do anything special to hold the details on the star but it held.
I knew that I wanted to make a Mario sandwich but was unsure how. This was my inspiration. I copied the apple mushroom and was inspired to make a cucumber star from this lunch.
Container: EasyLunchBoxes
Left Side: Mario peanut butter sandwich on wheat bread (sideburns, eyebrows, and mustache are the crust from the bread glued on with peanut butter, eyes are cheddar cheese with food coloring marker details, the hat is Wegmans Strawberry Fruit Strips, the “M” is cheddar cheese with food coloring marker detail)
Top Right: Cucumber stars, one with skin and inside of cucumber for eyes
Bottom Right: Apple mushroom, I used the end of a pastry tip to create the circles and removed the skin with a knife. I dipped the apple pieces in water with lemon juice to prevent browning
