Lion / Lamb Bento

Will March come in like a lamb and go out like a lion? Or in like a lion and out like a lamb?

I found a set of animal picks at Japantown in San Francisco. I immediately knew how I would use the lamb and lion.

I struggled with the lion. I am not sure that it looks like a lion. I first tried match stick carrots and thought it looked like the sun.

The lion and lamb are rice balls. I used a flower rice ball mold for the lion and shaped the sheep by hand. I used carrot, dried blueberries, and cheddar cheese to decorate. They lay on a bed of raw spinach.

The walnuts are maple candied walnuts. They contain walnuts, maple syrup, and sesame seeds.

I think the Lion and lamb are great – and the walnuts sound really yummy. What a fun trip – I would have skipped some of the exhibits too but would have jumped at going to California!
